"Questioner: When you talk about being free, there are many people in this world who don’t have the freedom to do whatever they want to do.
Gabriel: Because they believe they can’t.
Questioner: Not because they believe, but because of the circumstances of the country where they live. They don’t have that freedom like we do here. People who live in other countries would like to have the freedom to talk.
Gabriel: But if they chose, they could move somewhere where they did have freedom. I am not talking about earthly lives here. I am not talking about people who are an oppressed people. You will always have oppressed people. You will always have oppressors. But you create that, not consciously. No one ever sits down and says, ‘Well, I think I shall be a victim today. I think I shall find me someone who is going to trounce the daylights out of me and take away everything I have!’
But when you are still in the spirit world, before you come to the earth into physical form, you get together with all of the people you are ever going to know in your life, relatives, friends, acquaintances, and so forth and you all plan.
People come to the earth in groups. Some of them don’t meet for many years on the earth, but they come together in groups who have chosen to experience a certain kind of adventure and they all choose the parts that they will play.
Now I know this sounds very simplistic, but it is the truth. When you get ready to come to the earth, you will choose your parents. Before they come to earth, they have agreed to be parents to you. You say, ‘Well, I killed you in the last lifetime. Do you want to kill me in this one?’ ‘Sure, why not.’ They choose to do these things. They play out their part always for the opportunity of learning to rise above it, to love anyway.
I know that sounds difficult to you when you see little children who are starving to death and people who are so oppressed, they have no hope. But they still chose that experience. Does that mean you shouldn’t care about them or you shouldn’t feel love and a desire to help? Not at all. It just means that they have chosen for whatever reason to go through that experience.
The other thing you have to remember is the law of karma. What goes around, comes around. What you create will meet you. It will sneak up behind you and bite you in the backside. The whole lesson is to think, to feel with love because when you love someone you don’t create bad things for him, do you? You don’t attack someone you love. So when people are learning love, then the wheel of karma changes."
