Layers of Awareness

"The Christ awareness is already within you, but you have covered it over with all of the guck that you have believed in through the years. So what happens as you forgive? As you truly forgive, you remove a layer that obscures the Christ and that Christ rises higher in your consciousness.

Then, the next time you forgive, another layer is removed and the Christ awareness rises a little higher until at last you have nothing to obscure your view and your awareness of your own Christ, and not only yours, but of the Christ that lies within everyone.

Every one of you in this room has someone that you need to look at differently, someone you need to view not as an obstacle on the path of your unfoldment but rather as an opportunity on your path to love unconditionally. That is accomplished through forgiveness.

Now does that mean that you will always like everything this person does or says? No. But you will recognize that when he is doing or saying something that goes against your grain, as your term is, that it is not done out of maliciousness. It is not done to hurt you. It is done that you have yet another opportunity to forgive.

You might think, 'Well, how many times do I have to forgive this bozo? Until you recognize that the problem is not that bozo. Where do you think you would find the Christ? Within. Where do you think you find your bozos? You find your bozos within, too. Now here is how it works:

When you have a need to rise up spiritually, in forgiveness, you will find someone presenting himself to you upon whom you can project your own problem. In other words, you can find someone else to blame for your feeling badly. Everyone familiar with that? When that happens, what do you suppose is actually, truly going on? It is a reflection of what is going on inside of you.

Whenever you see someone that you think is an enemy, regardless of whom you care to apply that to, whether it is someone who is robbing you of your happiness or taking away love or whatever, the truth is that you have within you the very thing that you are despising within that person. You might say, 'Well, I am not capable of killing. I don't steal. I would never do that.' You have that consciousness in you. I didn't say you would act on it. Most people have a lot of anger inside of them that they never act on. But does that mean that it isn't there? Not at all.

While you hold that anger within you, there are going to come triggering mechanisms to bring that anger forth, even if it is in little pieces, even if you get mad at your neighbor because his dog comes over and destroys your garden. It doesn't matter what or whom you are angry at. You can know that the anger you are projecting to the individual is within you. And whom are you angry at? The individual? Not at all.

You are angry at yourself and the big one is that you are really angry at God. Most people find it unacceptable to be angry with God. 'Oh, I wouldn't dare to be angry with God.' The anger that you think you have toward God and toward yourself is really your unwillingness to accept the love that is already within you. How many of you can truly say you deeply love yourself? Not a one of you.

...What is the root of your anger? You think you walked away from God. You walked away from a good thing and now you are kicking your own backsides down through eternity for doing it. But the truth is, Beloveds, you didn't walk away. You didn't do any of the things you think you did. Forgiveness is the way to coming to recognize that you truly never did anything wrong.

You project blame onto others. This is why we teach you to forgive others because as long as you can blame them, then they have to be the object of your forgiveness too. As you blame, you forgive. As you forgive, you come up in consciousness. You find you blame a little less. You forgive more. You overlook more. You are willing to be patient and tolerant of someone. Most people are far more tolerant of others than they are of themselves. So you see, the whole adventure here upon the earth is for you to have the opportunity to forgive yourself."
