Why the Ego?

“Well, way back when you first decided to leave the kingdom of God within your consciousness, you created the ego as a method of protection. You believed you needed to be protected and therefore you needed an ally so you created this ego part of the personality that would warn you about things. It would say, ‘Oh, be careful of this. Watch out for that.’ It was meant to be your servant, but after a while it became your master because that was the only voice you heard.”
