When a Good Deed is Not a Good Deed

"The detractors of spirituality will not be obvious. ...Instead, they are subtle. They use that which already exists within your Soul's awareness to distract you. They approach you on your dedicated path as lethargy, lack of interest, too tired, too busy, must pour your energies here, there, or elsewhere, can't do it because of family, can't do it because of job, can't do it because of this or that. So, the hour you would have spent meditating, praying, learning, or going within, you have spent doing something for someone else, haven't you? You might ask, 'If I don't do all these good deeds, then how shall I arrive where I need to be?' There is a single word that will answer that: Balance. A good deed that deprives you of your spiritual growth is not a good deed. Dedication to any calling that deprives you of time with you and your God is a robber and a liar."
